
A wide range of insects, water bugs, amphibians, snakes, birds and some mammals are known to prey on tiger salamanders. Tiger salamanders can be preyed upon in various stages of life, including the larvae, egg or adult stages.
Some predatory insects that feed on larvae and eggs include caddisflies, dragonfly naiads and diving beetles. Amphibians that feed on tiger salamanders include newts and other salamander larvae. Predatory snakes include garter snakes and eastern hog-nosed snakes. Birds, such as shore birds, wading birds, gray jays, kingfishers, great blue herons and egrets, can also feed on tiger salamanders. Some mammals also feed on tiger salamanders, including badgers, bobcats, raccoons, coyotes, opossums and even humans.
