How Do Snakes Mate and Reproduce?

snakeThere are two ways a snake reproduces, through live birth or egg incubation. Breeders have also managed to create environments for artificial incubation.

Boa constrictors are an example of snakes that reproduce through live birth. The eggs are formed and fertilized inside the female which, when ready, are birthed. The baby snakes look like their miniature versions of the adult snakes.

Burmese pythons are a type of snake that follow egg incubation. The female produces up to 100 eggs, of which 30 percent last on average. The incubation period takes several months. Once the incubation period is over the eggs begin to hatch usually between 12 to 18 inches.
